A new entrance fitted with modern accessibility features has been opened for public use at Wimco Nagar Metro Station, significantly improving convenience for daily commuters. The additional entry point, located along Tiruvottiyur Road, is equipped with a lift (elevator) and a moving staircase (escalator), ensuring easier and safer access to the station.
The facility is expected to benefit senior citizens, persons with disabilities, school students, and women commuters, reducing dependence on stairs and easing entry during peak hours. The entrance was formally inaugurated by local school students, symbolising Chennai Metro’s community-centric approach to infrastructure development.
Senior officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), including representatives from the operations and maintenance wings, attended the inauguration along with metro staff. Officials said the new entrance is part of CMRL’s broader initiative to enhance passenger amenities and provide barrier-free access across the metro network.
CMRL reiterated its commitment to improving last-mile connectivity and ensuring that metro stations are inclusive, safe, and user-friendly, especially as ridership continues to grow in North Chennai.
