Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday said that the DMK‑led state government has successfully fulfilled 95 per cent of the major issues and long‑standing demands of government employees, highlighting the administration’s focus on public servants’ welfare ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Speaking in the State Assembly, Stalin listed various steps taken by his government to address concerns raised by employees, including salary revisions, enhanced benefits and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening job security and financial stability for state staff.
The Chief Minister pointed to significant policy moves such as the introduction of the Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme (TAPS) — a reform that effectively restores pension benefits comparable to the earlier Old Pension Scheme for government employees and teachers, ending a 20‑year demand by employee organisations.
Meanwhile yesterday, the Chief minister laid the foundation stone for the Mamallan reservoir project at Nemmeli on the East Coast Road (ECR) in Chengalpattu district, a Rs 342.60-crore Water Resources Department project aimed at augmenting water supply to Chennai’s fast-growing southern suburbs. Speaking at the event, Stalin said, Water management is as important as financial management for a country. “It is part of ancient Tamil culture for habitations to come up around waterbodies. This project will be known in history as one that benefitted Chennai’s growing areas.”
