Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched a strong critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)‑led Union government, accusing it of undermining democratic values and failing to respect coalition partners and federal principles.
Addressing a public event in Chennai, Stalin said the Centre does not value democracy or collaborative governance and implied that the BJP’s approach harms cooperative federalism. He highlighted Tamil Nadu’s comprehensive development achievements, saying the state has pursued broad‑based economic growth that benefits all sections of society.
The Chief Minister also contended that the central government has imposed “artificial financial burdens” on Tamil Nadu, even as the state recorded one of the highest economic growth rates in the country. Stalin argued that the Union government’s actions reflect a lack of respect for states governed by opposition parties and reiterated his call for stronger rights and autonomy for states.
Stalin’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with the DMK and BJP frequently clashing over governance, rights, and development issues.
