To manage the surge in passenger demand during the weekend holidays, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has announced the operation of 865 special buses from Chennai and several other major cities across the State. According to transport officials, the special services are being arranged in addition to the regular daily bus operations to accommodate the large number of passengers travelling during the weekend. A majority of the special buses will operate from the Kilambakkam Bus Terminus to major destinations across Tamil Nadu. These include Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchirappalli, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode and Tiruppur. Transport authorities said 310 special buses will operate on Friday (March 6), while 325 buses will run on Saturday (March 7) from the Kilambakkam terminus to meet the heavy travel demand. From the Koyambedu Omni Bus Stand, special services will also be operated to destinations such as Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur and Bengaluru. A total of 55 buses will be operated on both Friday and Saturday from this terminal. In addition, around 100 special buses will be operated from other cities including Bengaluru, Tiruppur, Erode and Coimbatore to various destinations. Another 20 special buses will operate from Madhavaram on Friday and Saturday to facilitate passenger travel. Transport officials said the special services have been arranged to ensure smooth travel for passengers returning to their hometowns or visiting major cities during the weekend, while also helping reduce overcrowding in regular bus services.
