Food lovers in Chennai found their favourite breakfast items missing from hotel menus, as a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders forces eateries across the city to cut down on cooking.
Hotels, hostels and small restaurants have begun trimming their menus and reducing operating hours as the gas supply crunch disrupts daily kitchen operations.
Many establishments say they are now preparing only a limited number of essential dishes, temporarily dropping popular items that require longer cooking time and higher fuel use.
Several restaurants have also shortened service hours to conserve the limited LPG stock available. Owners warn that the current gas supply may last only a few days, creating uncertainty about normal operations.
Hostels and paying guest accommodations have also simplified their meal plans, offering fewer breakfast options and limited lunch items to manage the shortage.
Industry representatives caution that if LPG supplies do not improve soon, more eateries in the city may be forced to further scale down services or even temporarily shut down operations.
