Chennai, Apr 11:
In a major initiative to support medical aspirants, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department has launched free NEET coaching classes for government school students across the State.
The programme is aimed at students who have completed Class 12 and registered for the NEET 2026 examination, which is scheduled to be held on May 3, 2026. Officials said nearly 28 lakh students are expected to appear for the exam nationwide, including around 1.5 lakh candidates from Tamil Nadu. Of these, about 12,000 students from government schools have registered for the coaching support.
To strengthen preparation, the department has established free coaching centres in all districts, where eligible students are receiving structured training. The classes are being conducted by experienced postgraduate teachers, with a focus on syllabus completion, regular practice tests, and exam-oriented preparation strategies.
In Chennai, special coaching centres have been set up at institutions including the Ashok Nagar Government Girls Higher Secondary School and other designated venues. More than 250 students have already enrolled and are actively participating in the sessions.
The coaching programme is being conducted daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and will continue until May 2, 2026, allowing students adequate time for revision ahead of the examination.
Officials expressed confidence that the initiative will significantly improve the performance of government school students and enhance their chances of securing medical admissions.
