Chennai, May 11:
Welcoming the first initiatives of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government on women’s safety and anti-drug enforcement, PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Sunday urged Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to immediately conduct a caste-based socio-economic survey.
In a statement, Anbumani praised the government’s move to form a special task force to curb crimes against women and dedicated police units to tackle narcotics, calling them timely and necessary steps.
However, he stressed that safeguarding Tamil Nadu’s 69% reservation policy requires updated caste data, warning that the quota system could face legal challenges without it. Describing the exercise as a “social justice survey,” he said it was essential to ensure proportionate representation for all communities.
Recalling TVK’s poll promise, Anbumani said conducting a caste survey should be taken up on priority to protect the State’s long-standing social justice framework.
