Chennai, May 13:
Premalatha Vijayakanth, general secretary of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), on Tuesday alleged that horse-trading and bargaining had taken place ahead of the confidence motion moved by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay in the Assembly.
Participating in the debate, Premalatha recalled Vijay’s earlier assurances of transparency and a model administration, noting that people had welcomed his rise from a non-political background. However, she expressed concern that allegations of horse-trading had now surfaced at a crucial moment when the government was proving its majority.
She questioned reports of an individual travelling with their face covered to meet the Chief Minister, asking for clarity on the matter. “If the reason was horse-trading, there can be no greater embarrassment to this historic Assembly,” she said.
Premalatha also criticised the appointment of astrologer Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as Political Special Officer, alleging he was being treated as a “rajaguru” and questioning the message such a move sends to the youth.
Emphasising that words and actions must align, she said the younger generation had placed faith in the government and expected it to uphold democratic values and transparency.
She concluded by urging the administration to function honestly and evolve into a model government, while conveying greetings on behalf of the party and its founder Vijayakanth.
