Chennai, May 19:
Newly appointed School Education Minister A. Rajmohan on Monday released redesigned textbooks for Classes 1, 2 and 3, prepared under the revised curriculum framework. The textbooks, initiated during the previous DMK regime, aim to simplify learning, improve comprehension, and encourage independent thinking among young students.
Addressing the media, Rajmohan reiterated that the two-language policy remains a key priority for Tamil Nadu and the ruling government led by C. Joseph Vijay. On the implementation of the PM-SHRI scheme in the state, he said discussions are ongoing and a decision would be taken after evaluating its advantages and challenges.
Soon after assuming office, the minister also chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the preparedness of the School Education Department for the 2026–27 academic year. Officials said the new textbooks adopt a child-centric approach, incorporating stories, songs, and interactive activities to make learning engaging, while focusing on achieving defined learning outcomes and enhancing classroom participation.
