Islamabad, May 22:
Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran to discuss ongoing US–Iran peace talks, as Islamabad continues its mediation efforts between the two sides. Naqvi is on his second visit to Iran within a week as Pakistan seeks to bridge differences in indirect negotiations.
He also held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other officials, focusing on regional developments, diplomatic coordination, and the need for continued dialogue. Both sides emphasised strengthening cooperation and maintaining regional stability, with Iran appreciating Pakistan’s role in supporting peace efforts.
Reports suggested that Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir may also visit Tehran, though this was not officially confirmed.
The discussions come amid heightened tensions over the stalled US–Iran negotiations, with warnings from all sides about possible escalation if diplomacy fails. Earlier Pakistan-brokered efforts achieved a temporary ceasefire, but a long-term agreement has not been reached, leaving the situation unresolved.
