Chennai, May 30:
The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), under the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, has launched a nationwide free annual medical check-up initiative for workers registered under the ESI scheme.
As part of the programme, which commenced on May 7, special health camps are currently being conducted at ESIC Hospitals in KK Nagar and Ayanavaram in Chennai. Officials have also announced that the initiative will soon be extended to the ESIC Hospital in Sriperumbudur, widening access to beneficiaries in and around the city.
The year-long medical screening programme aims to promote preventive healthcare among insured workers by enabling early detection of potential health issues. Registered beneficiaries can undergo a range of diagnostic tests completely free of cost.
The tests offered under the scheme include blood tests, liver function tests, kidney function tests, chest X-ray, electrocardiogram (ECG), and thyroid screening.
Officials said the initiative is expected to benefit a large number of workers by improving health awareness and encouraging timely medical intervention, thereby reducing long-term health complications.
Workers enrolled under the ESI scheme have been urged to make full use of the facility and undergo regular check-ups as part of maintaining overall well-being.
