Washington, June 15:
In a major diplomatic breakthrough, the United States and Iran have agreed to a comprehensive peace deal aimed at ending months of escalating conflict in the Middle East. The agreement is scheduled to be formally signed on June 19 in Switzerland.
The development was confirmed by leaders involved in the negotiations, with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stating that both nations had agreed to an “immediate and permanent” ceasefire. The talks, facilitated through backchannel diplomacy and international mediation, mark a significant step toward de-escalation in a region long plagued by tensions.
According to officials familiar with the negotiations, the agreement includes a cessation of all military operations and a commitment to avoid further escalation across key flashpoints. The deal is also expected to ensure the reopening of critical maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, which plays a vital role in global oil supply.
Sources indicate that the United States will ease certain strategic restrictions, while Iran has agreed to engage in further discussions over contentious issues, including its nuclear programme and regional security concerns.
