Chennai, July 6:
A sharp political exchange erupted in Tamil Nadu as Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a veiled attack on the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), describing the current administration as a âsofa modelâ regime and alleging that a âpolitical disasterâ is unfolding in the state.
Referring to the post-election realignments that saw several former allies shift support, Udhayanidhi remarked that the changing loyalties reflected instability following the Assembly polls. He suggested that the political environment had deteriorated, with key leaders exiting opposition ranks and backing the TVK government.
The ruling TVK swiftly countered the criticism, asserting that the term âpolitical disasterâ more accurately described the previous governance under the DMK. In a strong rebuttal, the partyâs IT Wing accused the DMK of fostering a centralized, family-driven political structure, claiming it sidelined senior leaders and deviated from the ideals of its founder, C.N. Annadurai.
The statement further alleged that Tamil Nadu had witnessed its âreal political disasterâ during the DMKâs tenure, branding it as a period marked by a âcorrupt modelâ of governance.
