Chennai, July 6:
A sharp political exchange erupted in Tamil Nadu as Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a veiled attack on the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), describing the current administration as a “sofa model” regime and alleging that a “political disaster” is unfolding in the state.
Referring to the post-election realignments that saw several former allies shift support, Udhayanidhi remarked that the changing loyalties reflected instability following the Assembly polls. He suggested that the political environment had deteriorated, with key leaders exiting opposition ranks and backing the TVK government.
The ruling TVK swiftly countered the criticism, asserting that the term “political disaster” more accurately described the previous governance under the DMK. In a strong rebuttal, the party’s IT Wing accused the DMK of fostering a centralized, family-driven political structure, claiming it sidelined senior leaders and deviated from the ideals of its founder, C.N. Annadurai.
The statement further alleged that Tamil Nadu had witnessed its “real political disaster” during the DMK’s tenure, branding it as a period marked by a “corrupt model” of governance.
