Chennai, July 6:
In a significant political and cultural move, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and Chief Minister Joseph Vijay is set to organise World Tamil Conferences (WTC) across multiple global locations, aiming to strengthen his party’s presence in the Tamil ideological space.
As part of the preparations, Tamil Nadu Minister Raj Mohan is currently visiting the United States, engaging with academicians and the Tamil diaspora. The initiative comes after Vijay gave the green signal for the international conference series.
Traditionally dominated by Dravidian parties, especially the DMK, the Tamil political narrative has long been reinforced through events like the WTC. Vijay’s move is seen as an attempt to position himself within this legacy while expanding its reach beyond Tamil Nadu.
Unlike earlier editions held in a single location, the proposed conferences will be conducted in phases across different countries to ensure wider global participation.
The events are expected to feature academic sessions, seminars, and cultural exchanges involving Tamil scholars and diaspora communities.
The World Tamil Conference, first held in 1967 in Kuala Lumpur, has historically played a key role in promoting Tamil language and research worldwide.
