Chennai, Aug 15:

Two devotees died of electrocution and one sustained injuries and shock while dragging a decorated temple chariot for Friday’s car festival when it came into contact with an overhead live wire at Nannai village in Perambalur district of Tamil Nadu last night.

The newly built 20 ft high chariot of the Ayyanar temple was readied for today’s car fest to mark the final Friday celebrations of the auspicious Tamil month ‘Aadi’.

After decorating the chariot, two men Annadurai (43) and Paramasivam (42), a farmer, moved it out of the temple when an iron cone  (a spire-like pinnacle placed at the very top of a temple chariot) came into contact with an overhead high tension live wire.

Both of them suffered shock and died of electrocution on the spot, while another person, rasu, who was also involved in the work, sustained injuries.

Police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to the Perambalur government hospital for post mortem and the injured for treatment.
