Chennai, Aug 18:

The Tamil Nadu government has extended the deadline for direct admission to Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) for the 2026-27 academic year to August 31, giving students who missed the counselling process another opportunity to secure admission.

The Employment and Training Department said Tamil Nadu has 132 government ITIs and 277 private ITIs. While counselling for government ITIs ended on August 14, the deadline was extended in the interest of students.

Students can approach the concerned ITIs for details and complete the admission process before August 31.

Training in government ITIs is offered without tuition fees. Eligible students are also provided monthly educational assistance of Rs 750. Government school students may receive an additional Rs 1,000 per month under the Tamil Pudhalvan and Pudhumai Penn schemes, subject to eligibility.

Other benefits available to eligible students include free bicycles, uniforms, footwear, training tool kits and bus travel, besides hostel facilities at selected ITIs.

The department said around 95 per cent of ITI trainees who completed their courses in previous years secured employment in leading companies.

Students seeking further information on direct admissions can contact the department through WhatsApp at 94949 55642 or 94990 55612.
