TVK govt hikes maternity leave

Chennai, Aug 19:

In a significant announcement, The TVK government announced increase in maternity leave for all government women employees from 12 weeks to 365 days–one year for their third child, Human Resources Management Minister Sarathkumar informed the State Assembly on Tuesday.

He said till now married women government employees having two surviving children (having two or more children), has been provided maternity leave to a maximum of not exceeding 12 weeks.

The government, which has been according importance to Social Welfare and Women development, has decided to provide 365 days maternity leave for its women employees for the third child.

Replying to the demands for grants for his department, Sarathkumar also announced a series of measures, including a ‘Vettri Paathai’ app for competitive examination aspirants and a dedicated social media monitoring centre under the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.

He said 150 government services would be delivered under the Elimai Aalu­mai scheme, while competitive examination coaching centres would be linked with knowledge centres.

The minister also announced a Rs 5.12-crore additional building for the TNPSC, a modern computer centre and an open-air sports arena at the Bhavanisagar Government Officers Training Centre.

Online skill-development training for government employees will also be expanded to include lessons on laws and service rules, he said.
