Kinshasa, Oct 28:
The Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has crossed 10,000 confirmed cases, prompting authorities across Africa to intensify efforts to contain its spread.
According to the latest reports, the outbreak has spread across several provinces in Congo and reached other African countries, including Kenya and Nigeria. Health authorities are strengthening surveillance, tracing contacts and isolating infected patients to limit further transmission.
The response has been hampered by armed conflict, difficult access to affected communities, mistrust of health workers and pressure on treatment facilities. Officials are urging early reporting of symptoms and prompt medical care as efforts continue to contain the outbreak.
The World Health Organization has called for coordinated cross-border surveillance and preparedness, warning that continued transmission poses a significant public health challenge.
