New Delhi:
The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to examine fresh petitions challenging the requirement to sing all six stanzas of the national song, Vande Mataram.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant issued notices to the Centre and others on petitions filed by Bhimrao Duryodhan Borkar and former IAS officer Balakrishnan Sathyabhama Mavoji. The petitioners have raised concerns over the content of the additional stanzas and the implications for secularism and freedom of conscience. The court tagged the pleas with similar petitions and scheduled the next hearing for November 30.
