Mumbai, Oct 30:
Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians have parted ways with bowling coaches Lasith Malinga and Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach Carl Hopkinson as the franchise undertakes a major overhaul of its coaching set-up ahead of the 2027 season.
The announcement on Thursday comes days after former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard replaced Mahela Jayawardene as head coach. The departure of the three members of the support staff marks another significant change in the team’s coaching structure.
Former Sri Lankan pacer Malinga had a long association with Mumbai Indians, first as a player and later as a mentor and coach. The franchise recalled his contribution to four IPL title victories and the 2011 Champions League T20 triumph, describing him as one of the most iconic figures in its history.
Mhambrey had been associated with Mumbai Indians between 2010 and 2017 before returning to the franchise in 2024, following the end of his stint with the Indian team in October 2024.
Hopkinson joined the franchise ahead of the 2025 season after serving as a fielding coach with the England men’s team. He had replaced James Pamment in the role.
In a statement, Mumbai Indians thanked all three coaches for their commitment, contribution and service to the men’s team. The changes come as the franchise prepares to reshape its support staff under Pollard’s leadership ahead of the next IPL season.
