Woman techie to lead Toastmasters clubs in TN, Sri Lanka


Chennai:  Chennai-based IT consultant, distinguished Toastmaster Suganthi Periasamy, has been elected the director of District 82 (D82), comprising over 250 Toastmasters clubs in Tamilnadu and Sri Lanka.

A press release said she is one of the youngest and only the second woman to occupy the top position.

“A banking domain consultant in Tata Consultancy Services Limited, Chennai, she has authored white papers on software innovations in the payments space, and has a patent to her credit in the field of real-time payments,” the release said.

Suganthi said the vision for this year is to take Toastmasters to more corporates and communities, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities within Tamilnadu and smaller towns of Sri Lanka.

“The corporate sector will benefit from Pathways, the new curriculum launched in May this year, which offers 290 skills in communication and leadership,” the release added.

The programme quality director is T M Sarmaa Mahalingam, an MBA Graduate from University of Colombo and an entrepreneur. The club growth director is Noorul Munawwara, a Chartered Electrical Engineer.

Toastmasters is spread across Tamilnadu and Sri Lanka, and D82 has over 250 clubs and over 7,500 members.
