Chennai: The Puthiranganni Amman Koil in Thiruvanmiyur in the city is always bustling with activity.
For, it is here that members of Balvikas- a wing of Sri Sathya Sai Organisation conducts classes for children free of cost.
Instructor Usha Bhaskaran (57), a resident of Thiruvanmiyur and vice principal of Vidya Ratna School in Adyar, along with retired mechanical engineer Viswanathan V (60) sit with children on Sundays to teach them bhajans, slokams and moral stories.
Both teachers say that these help build the character of children, who are also taught Maths, English grammar and other subjects based on their requirements.
“I became a part of this organisation in 1989 when my children began attending the sessions. I like the principle of Balvikas. So I subsequently joined this place and started serving in Mumbai. Later, I moved to Chennai and joined Thoraipakkam resident Viswanathan and started working again in 2008,” Usha says.
Both the trainers are devotees of Sri Sathya Sai Baba and carry out this service selflessly.
According to Viswanathan”In 1990, I got an opportunity to met Baba in Whitefield in Bengaluru. He is my inspiration. The main objective of this unique programme is to develop human excellence of students right from their childhood.”
Viswanathan who also visits schools and colleges to interact with young minds, can be reached at 9841820654.
