Chennai: The first thing that you look forward to every morning is tea, coffee or any milk drinks. But how healthy is the milk that you consume?

While everyone opts for packed milk, D Murthy, a resident of Porur, in the city gives people a healthy indigenous cow breed’s milk to his customers.

“Our family has been residing in Porur for several decades now and we have been doing milk business for five generations. After a severe fall from people buying the indigenous breed’s milk and switching to packed milk, now they are slowly getting back to the tradition of buying cow milk. Revolutions like Jallikattu protests have helped this change,” says D Murthy.

“We had over 50 cows but now due to the fall in the business we have only 10 cows. Educated people who know the dangers of packaged milk opt for cows’ milk,” says the 45-year-old.

“Since we belong to an agricultural family, we know everything about growing healthy cattle. We do not even do door deliveries. People come to our place to buy milk since they know that we give the best quality,” mentions Murthy.

The milkman seems to know even how to treat the animals. “If any of my cows is not well I can identify just by seeing them. I treat them like my own sons,” he says.

“After the Jallikattu protest, many people realised the importance of indigenous breed’s milk. Many people living in other residential areas also come and buy milk from us,” he adds.

Murthy owns a separate ground for his cows alone. “I can turn even an unhealthy cow into a healthy one by giving them the right food. Mostly I feed them different gram skins, wheat saw, kambu, kelvaragu, ellu, vaikol, corn and many more,” he says proudly.

He finally says,”No food is healthy nowadays. As a farmer, I can say how much chemicals are mixed in our food items right from the cultivation stage. Milk is the only natural drink we get, so people should choose the healthy way to stay strong.” Murthy can be reached at 97910 58211.
