Films on martial arts are rare in Tamil cinema. Vivek starrer Ezhumin is one of them but is centered with children and says why learning to defence is very necessary.
The movie opens with introduction of Viswanathan’s (Vivek) son Arjun and his five friends Ajay, Kavin, Vinith, Aadhira and Sara.
All the six school-going children are trained and skilled in martial arts. The movie is all about the politics involved in sports and how the children go through that.
Filmmaker Viji has taken some serious attempts to select the right set of kids to cast in his movie and done some ample research on martial arts and the competitive system of them.
A lot of idea is poured into the screenplay and is being knitted well by the director. The way martial arts is given space and significance in a robbery scene and in the climax is something brilliant by the writer.
Also, there is a scene when Vivek has to emote after the loss of the life of his dearest one. It is where we could see an actor who was hiding inside the comedian for years. His screen presence makes the movie an interesting watch. The efforts taken by the real martial art kids for their show off on screen needs a special appreciation.
Devyani compliments Vivek well. All the kids too have chiped in well. Azahgam Perumal does contribute his might. Ezhumin is a wonderful team work and if there are any lacunae in the film, it can be overlooked for the message they try to convey.
