Chennai: The police recently transferred out a high profile convict- a Pakistani spy- from the Puzhal Central Prison here after he claimed the was facing threats to his life from ISI.
The convict Mohamed Sakir Hussain, a Pakistani spy of Sri Lankan origin, wrote a letter to a high ranking officer claiming that the ISI was trying to eliminate him inside the Puzhal prison after he confessed his crime to National Investigation Agency (NIA) and also named Amir Zubair Siddique, a former Pakistan diplomat at Colombo mission, as his handler, reports say.
He alleged that he had been receiving threats from other prisoners based on directions from the Pakistani agency which wanted him to confess against the National Investigation Agency in the Madras High Court and also tell the court that the confession he had made in Poonamallee Court was false.
Speaking to News Today, a police source said, “He was arrested in 2014 for unauthorsied entry and was caught with few photographs and documents. He immediately confessed following which he was lodged in the High Security Prison. He never allowed anyone into his room and did not co-operate with other inmates out of fear. A soft-spoken man he immediately admitted his role in the spy case, but he was home-sick and was worried about his family.”
He is undergoing five-year imprisonment. Sakir is currently lodged at Cuddalore prison and his family members in Sri Lanka came under the protection of RAW, reports say.
