Chennai: The DMK has started interviewing those who had submitted applications to contest in the 21 Assembly constituencies that have fallen vacant following a court verdict.
But it must be noted that the Election Commission of India has not yet announced the dates for holding the by-elections in the State.
With the Madras High Court upholding Tamilnadu Speaker S Dhanapal disqualifying 18 AIADMK MLAs who rebelled against Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, it became necessary to hold by-elections to these constituencies.
With the passing away of DMK president M Karunanidhi and AIADMK chief minister J Jayalalithaa, two more constituencies were declared vacant, apart from that caused by the death of AIADMK MLA A K Bose who represented the Thiruparakundram constituency.
The interviews began this morning at DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam with the participation of party president M K Stalin.
It is believed by political parties that the by-elections would be conducted along with the 2019 general elections.
