While residents of various streets in T Nagar, Chennai, are already suffering from short supply of drinking water, they are now forced to put up with contamination of the same.
“The water we receive is being mixed with sewage. We are facing this issue for the past several months, while representations made to the civic body, are yet to be addressed,” said TR Srinivasan, senior Exnora Senator and long-time resident of Neelakanta Mehta Street.
The situation is no different in areas like Saravanan Street, Vaidyaraman Street, Melony Street, Motilal Street and Dhandapani Street as well.
“None of the SWDs here are closed properly. Hence, they end up getting mixed with drinking water,” he added.
Similarly, residents of Motilal Street and Dhandapani Street, also pointed out how metro water supplied through pipelines, is getting contaminated.
“We are using the water supplied through pipes only for washing and toilet purposes, as it stinks and is brownish in colour,” complained Rajaveni, a resident here. “Since these pipelines are not maintained well, it would have been easy for seepage,” she noted.
