Over a decade ago, AP Chandran, a resident of Choolaimedu, created a simple artifact using ice cream sticks. Fast forward to present-day, crafting has now become his passion and has led to the creation of several miniatures, such as a pen stand, motorbike, several models of multi-floored buildings, among others.
Speaking to this paper, Chandran says, “I started off with a few ice cream sticks to make different models like buildings, flags, birds, animals and houses.” He sometimes gives his finished items to the children in his neighbourhood, for free.
One of the toughest artifacts he has worked on is a motorbike. “It was highly complicated and took me over a month to finish it completely,” he says. Stating that he usually commences working by brainstorming and then taking one stick at a time, he notes, “I make models of buildings and even for projects requested by school and college students.”
So what is his aim? “I wish to get featured in the Guinness Book of Records, and I hope that the government recognises my work and offers me more opportunities,” he signs off.
