Tamil cinema is incomplete without mother-son bonding films. Since the days of MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, MGR, Sivaji till Dhanush and Sivakarthikeyan, several movies on the genre were made and they managed to make it big at the box office too.

M Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi
Starring Jayam Ravi as son and Nadiya as mother, the movie was a huge hit. Brought up by his single mother, Jayam Ravi is is very passionate about kick-boxing.
His life is shattered when his dying mother asks him to meet his estranged father in Malaysia.
The movie with all commercial ingredients ended up as one of the biggest blockbusters in Jayam Ravi’s career.
Baahubali
The mega-budget venture by S S Rajamouli was a revenge drama. Ramya Krishnan played mother to Rana Dagubatti (an evil king), in the movie.
However, the highlight of the movie was her love and care for Prabhas, who donned the role of a prince, who lost his parents early in his life. The bonding between Ramya Krishnan and Prabhas was the major highlight of the movie.
Pichaikkaran
Vijay Antony starrer Pichaikkaran struck a chord with masses for it overflew with mother-son bonding.
The movie was about a rich man, who chooses to lead the life of a beggar for 48 days in the hope that his mother, who is on her deathbed, will recover.
Deepa played mom to Vijay Antony. The movie was a huge hit not only ion Tamil but in Telugu too.
Velai Illa Pattathari
Dhanush played the lead in the movie which was based on mother-son relationship. A jobless techie, Dhanush’s life is his mother (Saranya).
Her sudden death changes his life. He is left yearning for love and care. Directed by Velraj, the movie featured Amala Paul as heroine.
Thenmerukku Paruvakattru
Vijay Sethupathi and Saranya Ponvannan played the lead in the movie. Set in the backdrop of Theni, the story is about Murugaiyan (Vijay Sethupathi) who is a shepherd and he has a loving mother Veerayi (Saranya Ponvannan).
She is a widow and struggles hard to raise Murugan and has an overflowing affection for him. Directed by Seenu Ramasamy, it was adjudged the best feature film in Tamil cinema in the 58th National Film Awards.
