70.50 lakh children to be given polio drops in TN tomorrow

Chennai: An Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) campaign will be held across Tamilnadu tomorrow, between 7 am and 5 pm, where 70.50 lakh children will be covered.

According to an official press release, 43,051 booths will be established in all PHCs/Government Hospitals/ ICDS Centres, Noon Meal Centres, Schools and other important places in Tamilnadu.

As many as 1,000 mobile teams have been formed to administer polio drops to children living in remote, inaccessible and migrant areas. Also, more than 3,000 vehicles will be deployed for the campaign.

About 2 lakh personnel from Health, Integrated Child Development Scheme, Education and other Government Departments and volunteers are participating in the campaign, the release said.

A total of 1,652 transit booths will be functioning in major bus stands, railway stations, toll plazas, check posts, airports during the campaign day to cover the children on travel.

Due to successful implementation of pulse polio campaigns, the State is entering 16th polio free year. Now, it is very much essential to sustain this polio free status and also to protect children from any possible transmission of wild polio virus. All parents are requested to utilise this opportunity and get their children immunised on Pulse Polio day, the release said.

The IPPI is supported by UNICEF, WHO and Rotary International.

Key points to be noted

* All children in the age group of (0-5) years will be given polio drops 19 January.
* Children immunised recently under routine immunisation schedule should also to be given polio drops.
* All newborn children should be given polio drops.
* To identify missed out children, finger marking is done for all vaccinated children on the left little finger.
* Private pediatricians and private hospitals will also administer polio drops in their clinics on IPPI day.
* Children of migrant labourers will also be given polio drops on the campaign day.
