Bangalore: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge today stressed that blaming just the Gandhi family for Congress’ election performance is not right, rather all party leaders are responsible.
He also said that Ghulam Nabi Azad, who recently met the G-23 leaders and then Sonia Gandhi, has spoken about keeping the party together and it is a good sign.
While speaking to media the dissenting G-23 leaders demanding a leadership change in Congress, Kharge said, We have always wanted that everyone should come together to strengthen the party… We are all responsible, mentioning Gandhi family alone is not right – many people said this (at CWC meet).
Talking about Ghulam Nabi Azad’s meeting with party chief Sonia Gandhi, he said, Ghulam Nabi Azad has been in the party for yesrs. He knows everything, so he talked to signatories there.
‘Azad met Sonia Gandhi. He has spoken about keeping the party together. It’s a good sign. He said that he wants to strengthen the party. It is a welcome stand, he added.
Earlier on Friday, he met with party president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and said he has shared suggestions discussed in the dissident G-23 group meeting on strengthening the party, which had a dismal showing in the recently concluded Assembly polls in five states.
The meeting with Sonia Gandhi was good. All members of the Congress party decided unanimously that she should continue as the president, nobody said that Sonia Gandhi should quit, we just had some suggestions that were shared,” Azad told media persons after the meeting at 10 Janpath, the residence of Sonia Gandhi.
The discussion was held to fight unitedly in the forthcoming Assembly elections to defeat the opposition parties, he said.
