In a significant move aimed at enhancing security and monitoring in the pharmaceutical sector, the Chennai District Collector has issued an order making it mandatory for all pharmacies in the district to install CCTV cameras. The directive, issued on Monday, March 5, 2024, requires pharmacies without CCTV cameras to take immediate action, as non-compliance will result in legal repercussions.Under the order, pharmacies in Chennai selling drugs listed in Schedule “X” and “H”, as well as “H1” drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act-1940 and -1945, are required to install surveillance cameras within 30 days from the issuance date of the order. Pharmacies failing to comply with this requirement by April 5, 2024, will face criminal action, as stated in the order issued under section 133 of the Criminal Procedure Act-1973.
