The accused, identified as Bagavathi, allegedly offered poisoned chicken fried rice to his family members, resulting in the tragic death of his grandfather, Shanmuganathan (67), and leaving his mother, Nathiya (40), battling for her life in the hospital.
According to police reports, Bagavathi purchased seven parcels of chicken fried rice for his family members on April 30th, lacing poison only in the portions intended for his grandfather and mother. The poisoning came to light when Shanmuganathan passed away without responding to treatment, prompting suspicion and investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Bagavathi, a resident of Devarayapuram near Erumapatti, had recently started working part-time at a browsing center in Namakkal and used his first salary to purchase the poisoned fried rice. Despite his attempts to deflect blame onto a local restaurant for selling contaminated food, authorities swiftly uncovered the truth.
Following a laboratory analysis conducted by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), it was revealed that the fried rice contained traces of pesticide, confirming the suspicions of foul play. Subsequently, when questioned by the Namakkal police, Bagavathi confessed to the heinous crime.
The motive behind Bagavathi’s actions appears to stem from familial discord over his romantic entanglements, with reports suggesting that he was reprimanded for his relationships with multiple women. However, the extreme nature of his response has stunned both friends and neighbors, who describe Bagavathi as a seemingly ordinary and unassuming individual.
