Residents of Adyar, Perungudi, and Sholinganallur mandals in Chennai will experience a temporary suspension of water supply from Sunday, June 30, 9 am, until Monday, July 1, 9 am. The suspension is due to essential maintenance work on the main pipeline connected to the Nemmeli seawater desalination plant, which supplies 110 million liters of water per day.
Affected Areas
The areas affected by this suspension include:
Adyar:
Pallipattu
RK Madam Street
Indira Nagar
Kottoor Garden
Thiruvanmiyur
Perungudi
Kottivakkam
Palavakkam
Pallikaranai
Madipakkam
Sholinganallur
Injambakkam
Neelangarai
Akkarai
Ezhil Nagar
Kannagi Nagar
Karapakkam
Vettuvankeni
Sholinganallur
Okkiyam Thuraipakkam
Residents in these areas are advised to store sufficient drinking water ahead of the suspension period as a precautionary measure. For emergency water needs, the public can request water through trucks by visiting the designated website or contacting 044-4567 4567.
Despite the suspension, drinking water distribution to areas without direct supply will continue unaffected, ensuring that residents’ basic water needs are met during the maintenance period.
The maintenance work on the Nemmeli seawater desalination plant’s main pipeline is a necessary step to ensure the continued and efficient operation of the plant, which plays a crucial role in Chennai’s water supply infrastructure. The plant, with its capacity to supply 110 million liters of water per day, is vital for meeting the water demands of the city.
While the temporary suspension may cause inconvenience, the maintenance work is essential for sustaining the long-term reliability of the water supply system. Residents are urged to take the necessary precautions and store enough water to last through the maintenance period.
