Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has urged the Tamil Nadu government to grant permission for the construction of the Mekedatu dam. In a statement posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Shivakumar emphasized the mutual benefits that the dam would provide to both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Shivakumar stated, “We have no objections to Tamil Nadu leaders conducting an all-party meeting. However, my only request to Tamil Nadu is to approve the construction work of the Mekedatu reservoir. This dam will equally benefit both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. This initiative is essential for the prosperity of both states.”
He further expressed his optimism, saying, “I hope Tamil Nadu will give the green light to the construction of the Mekedatu reservoir and contribute to a new chapter in the region’s development.”
Shivakumar’s appeal highlights the ongoing discussions and negotiations between the two states regarding the Mekedatu dam project. The proposed reservoir, intended to be built across the Cauvery River, has been a point of contention due to concerns over water sharing and environmental impact.
