The match started with India under pressure as China launched a fast-paced attack in the opening minutes. India’s defense, led by the agile Lalremsiami and goalkeeper Bichu Devi, held strong under the early onslaught. In the 18th minute, China earned a penalty corner, but Lalremsiami’s quick reaction and Bichu Devi’s rebound clearance prevented the threat. India’s struggle with penalty corners continued in the first half, despite four opportunities, as the Chinese goalkeeper made crucial saves.

However, the tide turned in the third quarter. India earned a fifth penalty corner shortly after the break, and this time, Deepika made no mistake. With a controlled reverse hit, she scored the only goal of the match, leaving China’s defense and goalkeeper helpless. Deepika, who topped the tournament with 11 goals, was later named Player of the Tournament.

Though India’s attack remained relentless, with notable performances from Sangita Kumari, Captain Salima Tete, Vaishnavi Phalke, and Sunelita Toppo, a missed penalty stroke by Deepika – saved by Chinese goalkeeper Ting Li – was the only blemish. Despite the setback, India’s composure ensured the victory remained intact.

The Bihar government recognized the team’s achievement, announcing a reward of Rs 10 lakh for each player. Coach Harendra Singh and his staff also received generous rewards, with the coach getting Rs 10 lakh and support staff members earning Rs 5 lakh each.

This victory marked the return of top-tier hockey to Bihar after many years, with all of India’s matches played in front of a packed crowd at Rajgir.
