The allegations of bribery and fraud against Gautam Adani by US prosecutors have triggered a fierce political and public debate in India. As the BJP and Congress trade barbs over the issue, the focus must shift from political rhetoric to an impartial inquiry that safeguards democratic principles and public trust. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has called for Adaniâs “immediate arrest and interrogation,” asserting that the US charges “establish that the businessman has broken Indian as well as American laws.” He also accused the Modi government of shielding Adani, claiming, “I can guarantee that Adani won’t be arrested or investigated in India because the Modi government is protecting him.”Responding sharply, BJPâs Amit Malviya questioned the oppositionâs own role, highlighting that the states mentioned in the US indictment were opposition-ruled at the time. “Before you pontificate, answer on the bribes the Congress and its allies accepted,” he said, adding that the Congressâs stance reflects their willingness “to be a prop in the hands of George Soros and his cabal.”
Meanwhile, the Adani Group has categorically denied the allegations, terming them “baseless.” The company stated, “The Adani Group has always upheld and is steadfastly committed to maintaining the highest standards of governance, transparency, and regulatory compliance.
