L. Murugan urges CBI probe into sexual assault case

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, L. Murugan, has called for the transfer of the Anna University sexual assault case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a fair and impartial investigation. Addressing reporters at his residence in Koyambedu on Sunday, after participating in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 117th “Mann Ki Baat” session with BJP functionaries, Murugan expressed serious concerns over the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu.

Highlighting the need for justice in the case, Murugan stated, “The culprit must confess to their crime, irrespective of their political affiliations. This heinous act should not be treated as a routine matter but as a special instance requiring meticulous investigation.”

Murugan further asserted that the State government has the responsibility to ensure justice for the victim and emphasized that if necessary, the case should be transferred to the CBI to guarantee transparency and fairness.

The Union Minister criticized the Tamil Nadu government for its handling of the case, alleging that the state had become a “haven for criminals” under its governance. “There is a complete breakdown of law and order in Tamil Nadu. The government has failed to maintain even a semblance of order, leaving people in fear,” Murugan alleged.

Referring to evidence released by Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai, Murugan questioned the DMK’s alleged links to the accused in the case. “It is imperative for the DMK to clarify its association with the culprit. The people of Tamil Nadu deserve to know the truth,” he remarked.

In a veiled criticism of VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, Murugan suggested that his protests over Ambedkar-related issues would carry more weight if he also advocated justice for the Anna University student. “We are the ones who honoured Ambedkar with the Bharat Ratna and built memorials in his name. It would be more meaningful if Thirumavalavan focused on seeking justice for the victim,” Murugan said.

Murugan’s remarks come amid growing public outcry over the handling of the Anna University case and escalating political tensions in the state.
