Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin shot a letter to the External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar seeking diplomatic initiatives to release the 34 fishermen from Tamil Nadu arrested by Indian Navy for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). Three mechanised boats, reportedly of high value, were also seized.
According to Tamil Nadu Coastal Police authorities, the arrests occurred during the early hours of Sunday. The fishermen have been arrested on charges of violating the IMBL.
The arrested fishermen hail from Rameswaram
This incident has reignited concerns over the safety and livelihood of fishermen in the region.
