The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned and released ₹500 crore for the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam scheme, which aims to construct one lakh houses during the 2024-25 financial year. The order was issued on Wednesday by Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Additional Chief Secretary of the State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.
According to the government order (GO), the state has approved the proposal submitted by the Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj. The sanctioned amount will ensure the smooth implementation of the scheme, benefiting thousands of families across Tamil Nadu.
Furthermore, the rural development commissioner has been instructed to factor in this expenditure while submitting the revised budget estimates for 2024-25. The government has also directed the preparation of necessary draft explanatory notes for inclusion in the supplementary budget estimates for the current fiscal year.
In addition to this, the government has sanctioned ₹108.71 crore to cover required expenditures under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) until March 2025. The funds will be allocated based on progress made by the beneficiaries under the central scheme.
This initiative reaffirms the state government’s commitment to improving rural housing and uplifting economically weaker sections through well-structured welfare schemes.
