Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday assured a fair and thorough investigation into the recent murder of retired Special Sub-Inspector Jahir Hussain in Tirunelveli. Addressing the State Assembly, he emphasized that law and order would be strictly maintained and that no one involved in any crime could escape justice.Responding to a call attention motion moved by former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and other MLAs, Stalin reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring justice. “A detailed probe will be conducted. The culprits, along with anyone who instigated the crime, will be brought to book without bias. This government will not allow anyone to take the law into their own hands,” he declared.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the gravity of the issue, noting that several MLAs had spoken on the matter without prior notice, which he saw as a testament to the government’s commitment to law and order. He assured the Assembly that strict action would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
Progress in Investigation
Stalin informed the House that two individuals from Thotti Palam Street in Tirunelveli had surrendered before the Tirunelveli Judicial Magistrate-IV in connection with the case. Additionally, a special police team has been formed to track down the remaining accused.
Providing further details, the Chief Minister said that preliminary investigations revealed that Jahir Hussain and one Krishnamurthy alias Mohammed Thowfiq had been engaged in a land dispute. A video uploaded by Jahir on his Facebook page on January 8, 2025, is also under scrutiny as part of the probe.
According to Stalin, both Jahir Hussain and Mohammed Thowfiq, along with Thowfiqās brother-in-law Akbar Basha, had filed complaints against each other. The police had taken up the matter based on the Community Service Register (CSR) reports and had summoned the accused for inquiry.
However, the Chief Minister acknowledged that the murder occurred while the investigation was still ongoing, describing the incident as ācondemnable.ā He assured that the police would take necessary steps to prevent such occurrences in the future and that the perpetrators would face the full force of the law.
