Chennai, June 30:
Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran has strongly condemned the DMK government, alleging a breakdown of law and order in the state and stating that under DMK rule, the lives of the poor and underprivileged are unsafe even inside police stations.
In a statement, Nagendran expressed shock over the alleged custodial death of a youth in Sivagangai district. “It is deeply disturbing that a young man who was taken for police inquiry in the Tiruppuvanam area has reportedly died. Ajith Kumar, a temporary staffer at the Madappuram Bhadrakaliamman Temple, was taken in the name of inquiry and subjected to brutal torture for two days by seven police officers, according to his relatives. This raises strong suspicion of a custodial death,” he said.
He further added that Ajith Kumar’s brother had given a statement that he and his brother were tied with ropes and beaten while being taken in a vehicle by the police. This incident, he said, reflects an increasing trend of police brutality in the state. He also recalled a previous incident where three women, including a pregnant woman, were assaulted at a police station when they went to file a sexual harassment complaint.
“Today, under the DMK regime, even stepping inside a police station is unsafe for the poor and marginalized. If this trend of lawlessness and police violence continues, more lives will be lost,” Nagendran warned.
