Chennai, Oct 8:
Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials conducted a sudden raid at the residence of popular Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan in Chennai, amid ongoing investigations into alleged illegal car imports.
The action follows accusations that two luxury cars owned by Dulquer Salmaan were illegally imported from abroad. Acting under Operation Numkur, the ED had previously seized these vehicles as part of their probe into potential violations of import and foreign exchange regulations. Officials had also asked the actor to submit documentation proving that the purchases were legal. In response, Dulquer Salmaan had filed a petition in the Kerala High Court, requesting that the seized vehicles be returned, asserting that the cars were procured legally. Despite this, a third car was also seized by the authorities.
Today, ED officers carried out a surprise raid at Dulquer Salmaan’s home in Abhiramapuram, Chennai, involving a team of five officials. The agency also extended the search to the actor’s film production company, reflecting the seriousness of the ongoing investigation. Sources suggest that the ED is probing possible illegal financial transactions related to the import of luxury vehicles.
This development adds to the ongoing scrutiny of high-value asset transactions and import regulations in the country. The raid highlights the enforcement authorities’ focus on ensuring compliance with customs and foreign exchange laws, particularly in cases involving celebrities and high-net-worth individuals. No official statement has been issued by Dulquer Salmaan’s representatives regarding the latest search at his residence.
The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected as the ED continues to examine documents, financial records, and other assets linked to the alleged illegal car imports.
