In a major push toward wider AI adoption in India, OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT Go will be free for all Indian users for an entire year starting November 4. The announcement comes ahead of the company’s first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, signalling a deeper engagement with the country’s fast-growing tech ecosystem.India is now ChatGPT’s second-largest market, and the company said the initiative reflects its ‘India-first’ strategy aimed at expanding access to powerful AI tools built on GPT-5. The move is also seen as a boost to the IndiaAI Mission, which focuses on strengthening AI education, innovation, and skill development.
OpenAI confirmed that existing ChatGPT Go subscribers will automatically receive a 12-month free extension, without any additional steps required.
With this rollout, OpenAI hopes to encourage students, startups, developers, and professionals across India to explore and build with advanced AI capabilities at no cost.
