Chennai Metro Rail services between Chennai Central and the airport have resumed normal operations after a brief suspension due to a technical glitch on the direct Green Line route via Koyambedu. The service was temporarily halted early Tuesday morning, and technical teams worked through the night to fix the issue.
According to Chennai Metro officials, the direct train service from Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R. Central Metro to the airport on the inter-corridor section is now running as usual. Other routes, including the Blue Line from Wimco Nagar to the airport and the Green Line to St. Thomas Mount, are operating on regular weekday schedules.
Commuters had faced some disruption on Tuesday due to the temporary halt, but services are now stable across the affected corridor.
Chennai Metro authorities also thanked commuters for their patience and cooperation during the disruption. Extra staff were deployed at key stations including Central, Koyambedu and Alandur to guide passengers and provide updates through announcements and display boards. Officials said constant monitoring systems helped them quickly identify and rectify the fault.
With services now fully restored, regular peak-hour frequency has resumed, ensuring smooth travel for office-goers, airport passengers, and daily commuters. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) reiterated its commitment to maintaining safe and efficient operations, assuring commuters that preventive maintenance measures are being strengthened to avoid similar incidents in the future.
