A minor fire incident occurred on Tuesday at Chennai International Airport, prompting an immediate emergency response but causing no damage or disruption to flight operations, officials said. The blaze broke out in the Terminal 2 departure area, apparently near airline office document storage, around midday. CISF personnel, AAI fire teams and Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services rushed to the scene, deploying fire tenders and extinguishers to quickly control the situation. Although there was dense smoke, large flames did not develop, and the incident was brought under control within about 40 minutes.
Passenger movement was briefly affected in the immediate zone, with issuance of boarding passes for departing international fliers temporarily suspended and those in the affected area evacuated as a precaution. Once the smoke cleared and safety checks were completed, normal airport operations resumed.
Airport officials confirmed that there were no injuries and all flights continued to operate as scheduled. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the fire.
The swift response by emergency teams ensured minimal impact, underscoring the airport’s preparedness for such situations.
