Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin led a series of solemn and symbolic events commemorating former Chief Minister and Dravidian leader C.N. Annadurai — popularly known as Perarignar Anna — marking his 57th memorial anniversary with deep respect and public participation today. In a message released on the occasion, Stalin emphasised that “no matter how many years pass, it is Anna who rules Tamil Nadu”, asserting that Annadurai’s ideals continue to shape the political and cultural landscape of the state. He highlighted how the names and legacy of Anna are woven into the everyday life of Tamil Nadu — from streets and statues to public institutions — underscoring the enduring influence of the Dravidian icon.
To honour his memory, a grand peace march was organised in Chennai, led personally by the Chief Minister. The quiet procession began at the Anna statue in the Government Gardens, Omandurar Estate, and moved towards Anna Square (Anna Satham), with ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, party workers and supporters participating in the rally.
Stalin and other political leaders later paid floral tributes and homage at the Anna Memorial on Kamarajar Salai. The memorial, a longstanding symbol of respect for C.N. Annadurai’s contributions, stands as a reminder of his role in shaping Tamil Nadu’s modern identity, including the promotion of social justice, Tamil pride and regional autonomy.
The memorial day observances also underscored the unity of political communities in Tamil Nadu, with leaders from various parties and organisations traditionally participating in the rites and laying flowers, demonstrating widespread acknowledgement of Annadurai’s historical significance.
