Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Friday claimed that the AIADMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu would secure only third place in terms of vote share in the upcoming Assembly elections.Citing findings from a survey, the Virudhunagar MP asserted that the alliance would not be able to move beyond the third position, regardless of where its leaders choose to contest. He maintained that the projected vote share for the front would remain limited.
“Our survey indicates that the AIADMK-led alliance will secure only 18 to 20 per cent of the total votes polled in the Assembly elections. This is an undeniable truth,” Tagore said while addressing reporters.
He further alleged that several leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is aligned with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), may reconsider contesting the polls due to fear of defeat. According to him, public sentiment in the state is not in favour of the alliance.
“In this election, it is very clear that the AIADMK-BJP alliance will be rejected by the people. They will come in third place. We are talking about two parties that are not even in the race,” he remarked.
Responding to a query about his earlier announcement that he would not contest again from the Virudhunagar constituency, Tagore reiterated his stand. He said his decision remains unchanged but emphasised that his connection with the constituency would continue.
“My relationship with Virudhunagar is one of love and affection. I will continue to raise my voice in Parliament for the welfare of the people of Virudhunagar,” he added.
