The Tamil Nadu School Education Department is set to advance the end-of-year examinations for students of Classes 1 to 9 in view of the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled on April 23.
According to officials, the annual exams were initially planned between April 10 and April 24 as per the academic calendar. However, with a large number of schools designated as polling stations, authorities have decided to reschedule the examinations to avoid disruptions.
Sources said the exams are now likely to commence in the first week of April and conclude by April 17, ensuring that school premises can be handed over to election authorities in a timely manner. The revised plan is aimed at facilitating smooth conduct of polling across the state.
To manage logistics effectively, the examinations are expected to be conducted in three phases. This phased approach will allow staggered use of school infrastructure and ensure adequate preparation for election-related arrangements.
Oficials confirmed that a revised timetable has already been prepared and forwarded to the School Education Secretary for approval. A formal announcement detailing the updated exam schedule is expected to be released soon.
The move is seen as a proactive step to balance academic commitments with election requirements, minimising inconvenience to students while ensuring readiness for the crucial democratic exercise.
